It was with some surprise that I learnt of the seemingly intractable
problems encountered by those sharing a bedroom with a snorer. There is a
simple technique to stop a person snoring, consisting in making soft
'kissie-kissie' sounds, or the palato-dental sound commonly transcribed as
'tut-tut'. The technique is doubly successful in that a) it is
effective; b) it does not wake up the snorer.
The above-described technique was the subject of a letter to the journal
'Australian Family Physician', signed by my doctor wife, which was
published in vol. 32/3, March 2003. The Editor persuaded his editorial
staff to conduct experiments in their own homes with almost invariably
successful outcomes. Other friends and colleagues of ours have also
reported a high rate of success.
I understand from a Spanish friend that in that country a similar, equally
effective technique consists in clicking one's fingers (thumb and middle
finger) a couple of times.
Hoping to bring some relief to victims of snoring partners,
Yours faithfully, Assoc. Prof. D. Bressan, University of Melbourne.
